Just what the World Needs
Author's Notes
The first question you will no doubt wish to ask is; how do I submit my play to you for publication.
Well, in the first instance we don’t want the script (Mind you if the play is very short 8 pages or less just send the script.).
Secondly, we are primarily interested in SA plays, but if you are from interstate contact us anyway. At this time we are unable to accept overseas submissions.
Thirdly: It is much more likely that we will publish if you have had a production and can give us excerpts from reviews. If you haven’t, don’t despair we are still interested.
To submit Please send an e-mail to books@tonymoore.id.au giving the following information: (Please use this format.)
1. Title
2. Author
3. Genre (Including short, one act or full length)
4. Cast Size
5. Synopsis: No more than 300 words
6. Details of any productions. (We are not snobs, amateur or professional.)
7. Review excerpts if you have any.
We do not accept every script referred to us for publication. After all, we hope to build a reputation for quality and affordability and therefore need to make decisions based on the quality and marketability of each script.
If your script is accepted.
If you are successful in having us accept one of your plays for publication the following will occur.
An ISBN number will be issued for your script or book and the legal deposit editions will be printed and lodged at the three repositories required in Australia. Additionally one copy of the script or book will be retained by Moore Books for future reference and one will be sent to you, the playwright or author.
We absolutely respect the intellectual property rights of our authors and should anyone receive a better, or even just different, offer of publication we will happily release any rights we have to allow you to take up that offer.
Obviously we are not just doing this because we are philanthropists. We hope to make some money for ourselves but we also hope that the service we offer will be worth the small costs to you that we will charge.
Costs:
Initial publication costs for a play script are approximately as follows:
ISBN number: $ 5.00
Printing of 5 copies minimum: $10.00 (This is an average based on about 60 pages and may vary for larger scripts.)
Admin Costs: $5.00
These costs relate to the production of what we call a ‘basic acting edition’ similar to the New York Samuel French edition or the New Theatre Publications edition and do not take into account any of our time spent in producing these scripts or setting up the entries on the website.
These costs will be charged to the playwright but this is the only payment we will be asking for per submission.
Charges for issue of Reproduction Rights and Performance Licenses
We do not intend to print copies of scripts for theatre companies to use for rehearsals. Instead we will supply a PDF which will contain, as part of the text, instructions limiting its use and license the company to copy the script themselves. A list of these charges is on the Perusal and Rehearsal Scripts page of this website. We will retain 20% of this fee.
We will also retain 10% of all performing rights that we negotiate.
Contracts outlining these details will be issued to each playwright.
